I’m a senior level non-profit and corporate communications executive with a proven record of success in leading internal and external communications, including media relations, employee communication, development, community relations and philanthropy.

Today I lead Wake Education Partnership, a business-backed nonprofit organization composed of corporate and community leaders committed to improving public education in Raleigh/Wake County, North Carolina. Prior to joining WakeEd in 2020 I provided consulting services for organizations in communications strategy, issues management, crisis communications, message development, media training, strategic planning, development and fundraising. With more than 25 years of corporate communications, media relations and strategic philanthropy experience that includes corporate, agency, political and non-profits, I’m ready to make an immediate positive impact on your organization.

From 2014 to 2019 I served as President and Executive Director of the Public School Forum of North Carolina, leading this statewide public education nonprofit during a critical juncture in the organization’s 33-year history. While there I developed, created and hosted the organization’s weekly television show “Education Matters” that airs on WRAL-TV and FOX 50 in Central and Eastern NC and statewide on UNC-TV’s NC Channel.

Before joining the Public School Forum, I served as the Senior Director of Community Investment for Time Warner Cable leading strategic philanthropy and community engagement for the company’s East Coast operations. Before working with Time Warner Cable, I served in advancing communications roles including Managing Director of Corporate Communications at AGL Resources, Director of Public Relations and Employee Communications for Progress Energy (now Duke Energy), and Vice President/Account Supervisor at Ketchum Public Relations in Washington, D.C.

I recently served as President of the Friends of the NC Museum of Natural Sciences Board of Directors. I also served on the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center Advisory Board and the Kenan Fellows Program Board of Advisors at NC State. I’m a proud Leadership North Carolina graduate and received the “40 under 40” Leadership Award from the Triangle Business Journal.

Born and raised in Fayetteville, North Carolina, I’m a product of Cumberland County Public Schools and received my bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I’m an avid runner and marathoner and live in Raleigh with my wife of 21 years Vanessa.  We have one daughter, Cecilia, a sophomore at our beloved alma mater UNC-Chapel Hill.
